[CRC] The CRC Camper's Stories

Yesterday, the CRC campers presented the storyline they will be using to make their CRC machinima! The following are short summaries of what they’ve come up with so far, along with the CRC article they’ve each identified. All CRC Article quotes are taken from the UN-CRC Child Friendly version.

Lucky Figtree: Article 23 You have the right to special education and care if you have a disability, as well as all the rights in this Convention, so that you can live a full life.
Lucky's story will portray someone in a wheelchair, who is being ill treated in a school. The student has trouble getting up and down the stairs because they are confined to a wheelchair, and the school does not provide an easier way for disabled children to get around. Therefore, the student is constantly late to class, and therefore scorned by teachers. This also interrupts with their learning.

Daniel Voyager: Article 28: Children have a right to an education. Discipline in schools should respect human dignity. Primary education should be free. Wealthy countries should help poor countries achieve this.
Daniel is going to show a boy, named Tom, who has to go to work. On his way to work he passes by the school which he cannot attend because of work. His friend asks him to come to school and he is finally able to go on Friday. However, when he goes, he finds that the conditions are horrible and teachers are not so great. So Tom stands up and asks for a better education, facing the camera the end.

bbelevenslashsixtytwo Ayres: Article 31 All children have a right to relax and play, and to join a wide range of activities.
bb is going to depict what an ideal day would be like; a child is going to wake up, eat breakfast, go to school, come home, do homework, and then go out and play, because the parents think the child deserves time to play. So the child goes to play soccer; this is what a normal childhood should be like. However, not everyone is so lucky so bb is portraying what a great childhood can be like, even so normal as this.

Tonyo Bikcin: Article 31- All children have a right to relax and play, and to join a wide range of activities.
So Tonyo is going to show a boy who has things to do all day and is too busy to play; so before he goes to sleep he writes on his calendar to remember to make time to play because all day he had to study, or babysit, or help his parents, which left him no time to play. He was too busy to even consider the idea of "play" in his day. Therefore, he MIGHT have time the next day; so the audience is left wondering 'does he have time to play tomorrow?'

Scott Deharo: Article 31: All children have a right to relax and play and to join in a wide range of activities.
Scott's story is going to start with a child laying bricks and then switch to a scene with children playing happily and then back to the brick layer - with more bricks; this will go back and forth a couple times. The last scene is going to show only one brick left to be put in and you can see the girl looking through as she puts the last brick in.

Tecno Tiger: Article 39: You have the right to help if you’ve been hurt, neglected or badly treated.
Tecno's story will start with a boy being verbally abused by his parents in front of his peers. He is sad and very depressed about it, he finds out about a help number and calls it. There is a scene of him talking with a counselor, feeling and looking more happy. The end is still fuzzy - which is what Tecno needs to work out next.

JOEY Alexandre: Article 15: You have the right to choose your own friends and join or set up groups, as long as it isn’t harmful to others.
Joey is going to show a boy standing with his parents beside him. The boy wants to choose his own group of friends, but his parents want to decide for him. Then the camera pans to 2 different groups of different: styles, clothes, hair, music, beliefs, etc. Then the camera zooms back to the boy and fades into a message about the article, and fades back to the boy with he group he chose. Both he and parents are happy at the end.

Totem Gufler: Article 24: the right to health care and clean water.
Totem will start off by showing a very sick family; they are struggling to make enough income to live and now two of them are too sick to work. They have no medicine, but then UNICEF comes to the rescue and gives them the proper medical care. They start to get better and in the end they show the family working and living healthy lives.

Echolon Syaka: Article 11: you cant be taken out of your country without say.
Echo is going to start by showing a boy cooking in his house with his mother. Then it will switch to a scene with people running through a jungle to abduct children. He wants to turn the scene back to the house and then they hear gunshots. People barge in and kidnap the child and the camera blacks out. Then it shows the place where he is being held. He sees a way out and makes a run for it...the screen fades into black and the end, for now, is left mysterious.

Nick Anderegg: Article 12. You have the right to say your opinion when concerning decisions affecting you.
Nick is going to depict a boy, named Owen, who's parents are divorced and his mom has custody of him. He is happy until his mom wants to get a job in Europe and move there with him. He does not want to move because he will lose all his friends, and he is afraid he will have problems communicating over there. Owen's father tries to fight for custody but the court would not listen to Owen or his father. The next week, Owen went off to Europe with his mom. His rights were violated because the court was unfair.

Comments

Thank you for allowing me to participate by talking to the kids. I found the stories to be very interesting and the responses to my questions were helpful in understanding where they were coming from when they made their decisions. I look forward to continuing my work with all of you next week!
